Show Length

Unlike the Display Length and Vertex tool, which draws temporary graphics, this tool creates a real label class — so the labels are saved with the project, honour label placement settings, and print.

• This is a toggle. Click once to turn the labelling on, click again to turn it off. There is no dialog.
• A line layer must be selected in the Contents pane. The button is disabled otherwise, and its tooltip says why:

• No fields are created and the schema is untouched. The value is computed from the geometry by an Arcade expression each time the map draws, so it stays correct after an edit and works identically on geodatabase feature classes and shapefiles.
• The expression adapts to the layer's coordinate system: The geodesic fallback keeps the labels meaningful on an unprojected layer, where a planar length would be in degrees.

• Labelling is applied through a dedicated label class named KGA_ShowLength. While it is active, the layer's other label classes are hidden. Toggling the tool off removes the class and restores the previous label visibility exactly as it was.
• Because the label is an expression rather than a stored value, it cannot be exported to a table or joined. To store the value as an attribute, use Calculate Geometry (on the Calculation gallery) instead.

1. In the Contents pane, click the line layer to select it.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Management group, open the Quick Label menu and click Show Length.
3. The labels appear on the map.
4. To remove them, select the same layer and click Show Length again.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
