Create Layer Package

A layer file (.lyrx) only points at its data, so sharing a styled layer normally means sending a folder of files and an explanation. A .kgalp contains the data as well as the style.

• The window lists every feature layer, raster layer and standalone table in the active map, in Contents order. Layers inside group layers are shown with their group path. Layers selected in the Contents pane start out ticked, and selecting a group layer ticks everything in it.
• Vector data from all packaged layers and tables goes into one GeoPackage (data.gpkg) inside the package, one table per layer, written with Export Features / Export Table. Definition queries are honoured.
• Rasters are copied as their original files, with sidecars (.aux.xml, .ovr, .prj, world files). A raster that is not a file on disk, such as a raster inside a geodatabase, is exported to GeoTIFF first.
• Every layer's style is written twice:

• What translates to QGIS: single symbol, unique values (including multi-field) and graduated colors/symbols renderers; solid and hatch fills; solid and dashed strokes; simple markers (circle, square, diamond, triangle, star, cross, X); picture markers (embedded in the style); the first label class, with its field or simple concatenation expression, font, size, color and bold/italic; layer transparency; visible scale range. Anything without a QGIS equivalent (gradient fills, character markers, other renderer types, complex label expressions) is simplified to the nearest match, and the report lists each case.
• Package only the selected features exports only the selected features from layers that have a selection. Layers without a selection are packaged whole. When the option is off, a layer's selection is set aside during the export and restored afterwards, so the whole layer is packaged.
• The package's manifest.json is written last. If a run is interrupted, the package has no manifest, and Open Layer Package refuses it instead of opening it half-loaded. The file is built next to the target and only renamed into place once it is complete.
• Group structure is recorded, so Open Layer Package rebuilds it in the receiving map. Only groups that contain a packaged layer are recorded.

1. In the Contents pane, select the layers to package (optional, since you can also tick them in the window).
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Creation group, open the Conversion Tool gallery and click Create Layer Package.
3. Check the ticked layers, and choose whether to package only the selected features.
4. Click Browse... and choose where to save the .kgalp.
5. Click Create. The report lists how many vector and raster layers were packaged, and any styling that had to be simplified for QGIS.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
