Field Formatter

Cadastral delivery specifications state exactly what each field must be called, what type it must have, and how long it must be. This tool brings a batch of layers into line.

• Input Feature accepts multiple layers and processes them all against the same specification.
• Output update feature class to difference workspace? decides where the result goes:
  • Unchecked (default) — The input layers are updated in place. There is no undo; make a backup first.
  • Checked — Corrected copies are written to Output Workspace, leaving the originals untouched.
• Output Workspace accepts only a local geodatabase or a feature dataset — the parameter filters to LocalDatabase and FeatureDataset. A plain folder cannot be used as the target, because shapefile field naming cannot hold the required schema.
• Run this tool before Parcel Cleaner if the field names and types are wrong, and after it if only the content needs standardising — Field Formatter fixes the schema, Parcel Cleaner fixes the contents.

1. Back up the parcel layers, or plan to use the copy option.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Geoprocessing group, open the Cadastral Tools gallery and click Field Formatter.
3. In Input Feature, select the parcel layers to standardise.
4. Check Output update feature class to difference workspace? and set Output Workspace to a geodatabase or feature dataset, so the originals are preserved.
5. Click Run, then review the messages for fields that could not be corrected automatically.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
