Feature Percentage

Where Percent Coverage reports one figure per layer, this tool writes a percentage onto every feature — the per-parcel share of a commune's area, for instance.

• Output Field receives the percentage. Check Create new field to have the tool create it, which enables Field name, Type, Length, and New Field Alias.
• Decimal Places controls rounding and must be between 0 and 8. A value outside that range is rejected with the message "Decimal places must be between 0 and 8."
• Add % notation for text fields appends a % symbol to the value. It is only available when the output field is a text field, and the dialog disables it otherwise. The choice has a consequence worth weighing: a numeric field holds a value you can sum, sort, and symbolise on, but displays as a bare number; a text field with % reads correctly in a table but cannot be used in calculations. Choose numeric unless the field exists purely for display.
• Percentages are computed from geometry, so the layer should be in a projected coordinate system.

1. Confirm the layer uses a projected coordinate system.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Management group, open the VectorIQ menu, point to Calculation, and click Feature Percentage.
3. Set Layer.
4. Check Create new field, then set Field name, Type, and New Field Alias. Choose a numeric type unless the field is only for display.
5. Set Decimal Places between 0 and 8.
6. If you chose a text field and want the symbol shown, check Add % notation for text fields.
7. Click Calculate, then Close.
