Boundary Overlap Check

Use this tool to check one administrative boundary against another — a commune layer against a district layer, or a new survey boundary against the existing cadastral extent.

• Input Feature Dataset must be the feature dataset that contains both boundary layers. A geodatabase topology cannot span feature datasets, so both inputs must already live there.
• The tool creates a topology named by New Topology Name, defaulting to new_topology. Give it a meaningful name when several checks will coexist in the same feature dataset; the name must be unique within the dataset.
• Both Input Boundary 1 and Input Boundary 2 must be polygon layers.
• The check is between the two layers. To find overlaps within a single layer, use Parcel Overlap Check or Detect Overlap/Gap.
• The topology is left in the geodatabase after the run so the errors can be inspected, filtered, and marked as exceptions in the error inspector.

1. Confirm both boundary layers reside in the same feature dataset of a file geodatabase.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Geoprocessing group, open the Topology gallery and click Boundary Overlap.
3. Set Input Feature Dataset to the feature dataset holding the layers.
4. Type a descriptive name in New Topology Name.
5. Set Input Boundary 1 and Input Boundary 2.
6. Click Run.
7. Open the new topology in the Catalog pane and review the reported overlaps in the error inspector.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
