Attribute Reclassifier

Use it to consolidate categories, apply a code lookup, or bring inconsistent legacy values into a controlled vocabulary.

• Rules are defined in the Rules grid, one row per mapping, with an Old Value and a New Value.
• Populate Value opens a picker listing the distinct values actually present in the Source Field, with Select All and Clear. Use it rather than typing the old values by hand — it guarantees the rules match the real data, including the trailing spaces and inconsistent capitalisation that hand-typed rules miss.
• Copy and Paste move rules between runs, so a mapping table can be reused across layers. Remove Row deletes a rule.
• Unmatched values decides what happens to a value with no rule. Decide this deliberately: leaving unmatched values as they are preserves data the rules did not anticipate, while clearing them produces a clean controlled vocabulary at the cost of losing anything you forgot to map.
• Source Field supplies the values and Target Field receives them. Using a separate target field keeps the original values available for checking, which is worth doing on a first pass.
• Overwrite existing target values governs whether populated target values are replaced.
• Use selected features only restricts the operation to the current map selection.

1. Create a target field to receive the new values, using Add multiple Fields.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Management group, open the VectorIQ menu, point to Analyze, and click Attribute Reclassifier.
3. Set Layer, Source Field, and Target Field.
4. Click Populate Value, click Select All, and confirm — the grid now lists every value actually present.
5. Fill in the New Value for each rule.
6. Set Unmatched values according to whether unmapped values should be kept or cleared.
7. Click Apply.
8. Compare the source and target fields in the attribute table. Click Copy to save the rule set for the next layer.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
