A legal description walks the boundary from a defined starting corner, stating each leg's bearing and distance in prose. This tool produces that text directly from the geometry.

  • Starting Point Method chooses which corner the description begins at: Use a compass-based method for a stable, reproducible description. first depends on the digitising order and can change if the geometry is edited, so the same parcel may produce a different description after a reshape.

  • Add Description Field is checked by default. It writes the generated text into a field on the parcel layer, so the description travels with the feature and can be used in labels, pop-ups, and joins — not just in the output file.
  • Output Text File receives the descriptions. If the path is typed without an extension, .txt is appended automatically.
  • Input Parcel Layer accepts polygon layers only, and should be in a projected coordinate system so bearings and distances are survey quantities.

Parcel ID FieldField

The field identifying each parcel, used to head each description.

Starting Point MethodString

The corner at which each boundary description begins. Default is northernmost.

Output Text FileFile

The text file receiving the descriptions. A .txt extension is added if none is given.

Add Description Fieldជម្រើសBoolean

Writes the generated description into a field on the parcel layer.

  • Checked (default) — The field is added and populated.
  • Unchecked — The description is written only to the text file.

របៀបប្រើ

  1. Confirm the parcel layer uses a projected coordinate system.
  2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Geoprocessing group, open the Cadastral Tools gallery and click Legal Description Builder.
  3. Set Input Parcel Layer and Parcel ID Field.
  4. Set Starting Point Method. Leave it at northernmost unless the descriptions must begin at a specific corner.
  5. Set Output Text File.
  6. Leave Add Description Field checked so the text is also stored on the parcel.
  7. Click Run, then open the text file to review the descriptions.
