Multi Ring Buffer

Use this tool for distance-band analysis — proximity zones around a road, service catchments around a facility, or setback bands around a protected area.
ការប្រើប្រាស់
- Buffer Distance Type decides where the buffer distance comes from:
Linear Unit— a single distance typed into Buffer Distance, applied to every feature.Field— a per-feature distance read from the field named in Choose Field. Use this when each feature has its own buffer width.
- Ring spacing is controlled by Equal ring interval?:
- Checked — Rings are spaced evenly. Number of ring and Buffer Distance together determine the spacing.
- Unchecked — Supply the ring distances explicitly in Specify ring interval, as a list of values.
- Dissolve Type determines how overlapping rings are handled: For distance-band analysis where each band must be counted once, choose a dissolve option — otherwise overlapping rings double-count area.
| Choice | Effect |
|---|---|
No Dissolve (default) | Every ring of every feature is kept as a separate polygon; rings from neighbouring features overlap |
Dissolve all output features into a single feature | All rings merge into one multipart polygon |
Dissolve features using the listed fields' unique values or combination of values | Rings merge per unique attribute value |
- Side Type (for line input) and End Type (for line input) apply only when the input is a line layer and are ignored for point and polygon inputs.
- Side Type —
FULLbuffers both sides,LEFTandRIGHTbuffer one side,OUTSIDE_ONLYexcludes the area inside the input polygon. - End Type —
FLATsquares off the line ends;ROUNDcaps them with a semicircle.
- Side Type —

- On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Spatial Analysis group, open the Spatial Analysis menu, point to Coverage Tools, and click Multi Ring Buffer.
- Set Input Feature and Output Buffered Feature.
- Set Buffer Distance Type:
- For one distance across all features, choose
Linear Unitand set Buffer Distance. - For per-feature distances, choose
Fieldand set Choose Field.
- For one distance across all features, choose
- Set Number of ring.
- For evenly spaced rings, check Equal ring interval?. For specific distances, leave it unchecked and list them in Specify ring interval.
- If the bands will be used for area or count statistics, set Dissolve Type to a dissolve option so overlapping rings are not double-counted.
- For line input, set Side Type and End Type.
- Click Run.
