FC To Topology

Use this tool to extend a topology already in use — for example, when a new commune's parcel layer arrives and must join the quality-control set — rather than rebuilding the topology from scratch.

• The feature classes being added must live in the same feature dataset as the target topology. A geodatabase topology cannot span feature datasets.
• All inputs must be polygon feature classes. The Input Feature Classes parameter filters the layer list to polygons.
• Check Check overlap boundary? to add the "must not overlap" rule for the feature classes being added. Leave it unchecked to add the feature classes to the topology without imposing that rule — useful when the layer legitimately contains overlapping features.
• Validation runs after the feature classes are added, so errors from the new data are reported immediately.
• To create a topology from nothing, use Topology Check instead.

1. Confirm the feature classes to add are in the same feature dataset as the target topology.
2. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Geoprocessing group, open the Topology gallery and click FC To Topology.
3. Set Input Topology to the existing topology.
4. Check Check overlap boundary? if the added layers must not contain overlaps.
5. In Input Feature Classes, select the polygon feature classes to add.
6. Click Run, then review the results in the topology's error inspector.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
